THE KEEPER OF FLOCKS – XLI

In the twilight days of summer, sometimes,
Even if there is no breeze anywhere, it seems,
What passes, for one moment, is a light breeze …
But the trees remain immobile
In all the leaves of their leaves
And our senses have an illusion,
Seeing what we would like to see…

Ah! the senses, of the sick who see and hear!
We are us, as we are supposed to be
And there is no need in us for illusion …
Suffice-we’re-us feeling clearly and alive
And not noticing or caring what we sense …

Thank God for the imperfections in the world
Because each imperfection is a new thing
And when people make mistakes they are original,
And it is these sick people that make the world fun.
If there were no imperfections there would be one less thing,
And there must be many things
So that we have much to see and hear …

Pessoa, F. (2018) Poems of Alberto Caeiro. In Portuguese and translated to English by David Scanlon. The Foolish Poet Press, Wilmslow, England. THE KEEPER OF FLOCKS - XLI. Page Number 56.

E haver gente doente torna o Mundo engraçado.
E deve haver muita coisa
Para termos muito que ver e ouvir…
